The quotes goes “if you are want to change your body – exercise, if you want to change your life, become a runner”. I can really relate to this and here is 5 ways running has changed my life.
1. My Health
Pre running, I was 3 stone over weight. I was lethargic, I made really poor nutrition choices and my fitness was non existent.
I had spent years sat behind a desk and that coupled with a lengthy daily commute, meant the weight had piled on. I lived on wine and takeaways.
2. Body Confidence
This is still very much a work in process, but Im getting there. I may be 40 next year, but if it’s hot, I am shorts and #sportsbrasquad all the way.
Before running, I would hide my body away in baggy clothes and would never have dreamt of getting my legs or tummy out.
3. My Social Life
Pre running we had just adopted our son and I had given up work. I felt so lonely, being a new mum, especially in slightly unusual circumstances was very isolating.
Running brought people into my life and gave me a sense of belonging.
4. Improved Mental Strength
Pre running, I would throw the towel in whenever something got tough or scary. Running has built up my resilience and taught me to never give up, no matter how hard things get.
5. It makes me feel capable
It makes me feel good enough and that makes me a better person, better mum and a better advocate for my son.
There is something powerful about running marathons and ultras that makes you feel like you can take on the world.
